Meditation- The Deepest Stretch For Your Brain

<
Nothing beats the bliss experienced post a good stretching sesh, right? That is, if you are open and committed to the postures. But if you are extremely tight and close minded to stretching, boredom and frustration take place far before one encounters bliss. Reaching a deep stretch feels amazing and does wonders for your physical body, but to get there you must be equipped with patience and dedication.

Meditation is like a deep stretch for your brain, you are in tune with your body and with time, breath and patience you drop deeper. For me I dabbled with meditation a handful of times never making it a priority, until I reached a point in my life where I was experiencing great anxiety. Being more introverted I prided myself on enjoying alone time, so I was surprised when I struggled with meditating. Like a beginner yogi in a yin class, I found myself  experiencing discomfort, boredom and frustration all in one 10 minute meditation session. But like all good things, patience and dedication is required. Meditation is something that I make sure I do every single day. It keeps me grounded during chaos, clear within fog and light within darkness.

Benefits Of Meditation

Meditation is a catalyst to self realization and clarity of mind. The practice of being still with your breathe invites in many benefits that float beyond the physical practice and into your everyday life. Meditation is known to lower stress, combat anxiety, boost self respect, lengthen attention span, improves sleep and overall well-being. Who wouldn't want that, right?

How To Start Meditating

Determine a time in your day (morning or evening is optimal, as it's a beautiful way to start or end your evening) where you can habitually meditate for at least 3-5 minutes. Create a space of ease, light a candle, clear the room with sage and ensure there is no distractions. You can either guide yourself through a meditation, by scanning each individual breathe and focusing on your body, or you can download an app ( I started with calm) to get you acquainted with meditating. Once you feel comfortable with a 5 minute meditation work your way to a 10 minute (or whatever you desire). Remember to give yourself grace, as we are all very human , if your brain floats away that's ok, just real it back in and come back to your breathe.
