Back to Basics With Vegan Skincare
When I was 14 I went on actuate. In addition to my braces, the skin on my chest and back were blanketed by red inflamed zits, and my face was coated by pesky pimples ranging in sizes. I was engulfed in acne and desperate for clear skin. In a frenzy, I tried anything and everything under the moon- fancy cleansers promising "flawless skin", peels that burned, cutting out sugar, oral medications, topical's you name it. After months of scrambling, per my Dermatologists recommendation I went on Accutane. What a shitty 6 months it was. I heard that Accutane would clear my skin, but what I didn't know is it would get worse before it got better, and I would experience EXTREMELY dry and flaky skin. I braced through those 6 months, and after my skin was dramatically different - it was clear and acne free... At least for a little. Within a year I was experiencing acne yet again, and although it was not at the same degree I couldn't stand it. I decided to take matters into my own hands, and this time rather than trying everything I was skeptical and wanted to learn.
Skincare is more than just cleansers, toners and creams. Skincare is how many hours you sleep a night, what you eat and how much water you drink. Your skin mirrors your lifestyle. With that knowledge, I shifted my lifestyle- I went vegan, I cut down caffeine and added more water and attempted to get 8 hours of sleep every night, and my skin began to clear up. That shift on top of finding vegan skincare products that prioritize using simple and intelligent ingredients radically changed my skin.
